Rod Moore – Painting Landscapes Level 2
“PAINTING LANDSCAPES – LEVEL 2″
IMPROVE YOUR LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS BY MASTERING THE
KEY ELEMENTS ESSENTIAL FOR ANY GOOD LANDSCAPE.
If you have learnt how to paint basic landscapes and are now ready to improve your landscapes by improving how you paint each of the key elements then this is the course for you.
Over the course of 6 weeks we will be breaking down how to paint each of the elements in a landscape into more detail than we did in the level 1 course. Each step in painting these landscape elements will be explained to you through video in great detail. You simply follow along and complete the exercises and by the end of the 6 weeks you will see great improvements in your ability to be able to paint effective looking landscapes.
Each week for 6 weeks you will receive one complete lesson that builds on the lesson from the week before. You will watch the videos for that weeks lesson, then using the comprehensive notes provided you will complete the exercises yourself developing your skills as you go. Once you complete each exercise simply take some photos and send them to us for review so we can make sure you are on track with the course.
Note: As we will be providing detailed feedback each week for each of the students over 6 weeks we can only take a maximum of 20 students.
This course is ideal for beginners and even those who have never picked up a brush before. We will explain all you need to know to get started, what art supplies you need including brushes, paints and canvases etc. The course is suitable for both oil painting and acrylics.
Here is what we will be covering over the course of 6 weeks:
Week 1 – Clouds
We start off our journey by looking at clouds and how to paint them more effectively. We look at the impact of light and the position of the sun on clouds, and how to integrate clouds into your painting for greater realism. Clouds set the mood of your painting and learning how to paint different atmospheres with clouds is essential as you advance with your landscape painting.
Week 2 – Mountains & Hills
We continue you our work with Mountains and Hills in our landscapes. In this level 2 course though we take it further by taking a closer look at the details you might find in your mountains and clouds. We further look at perspective and creating depth through tone and the use of warm vs cool colours. We will explore both alpine mountains, rolling hills that you might find in Tuscany, and typical Australian mountain ranges.
Week 3 – Trees, Shrubs, Grasses
Now we come to a more in-depth look at trees, shrubs and grasses. This time we will focus in more on the different types of trees you might find such as gum trees, pine trees, oak trees and poplar trees. The principle of painting trees is the same no matter what type so we will make sure you understand these principles so you can paint any trees you like in the future. Plus we will look at shrubs, bushes and grasses.
Week 4 – Buildings, Houses, Sheds
In level 1 we painted buildings from a distance which required almost no detail. No in this level 2 course we are going to look at more of the details painting larger buildings, houses and sheds. By being able to paint structures like buildings, houses and sheds you can use these as the focal point in your painting and base the story of your painting around these. We will focus on perspective so that your buildings look right and we will look at how do you make them look integrated into the landscape rather than looking like they were cut and pasted.
Week 5 – Landscape Details (Fences, Windmills, Foreground, Rocks, Paths)
In week 5 we focus in on finishing touches. These are so important in a landscape and cover everything from fences, windmills, foreground details, rocks, paths, ponds and dams, broken tree branches, people, animals etc. There are so many little finishing touches you can add into a painting to bring it to life and we will be exploring these in some detail.
By the time you have finished week 5 you will have gained a greater sense of mastery over painting the key elements in a landscape painting and your confidence will be soaring.
Week 6 – Painting Your Landscape
In week 6 I will paint a complete landscape painting of an intermediate level for you going into much more detail with each of the elements than we did in the level 1 course. You will then complete the painting project following the steps given.
I can assure you that no matter what your skill level is right now if you follow our week by week instructions, and complete each of the simple exercises, you will improve your painting by the end of the six week course. Our unique method of teaching breaks each step down into simple easy to follow instructions that you just follow along with. If you have always wanted to learn how to paint great landscapes then now is the time to get started.
