In short, instead of writing, “I missed my train,” you “show” what happened.

I rushed towards the stairs, heaving in air, ran down them, through the corridor, and up a new flight of stairs to platform 6.

When I got up, I saw the red lights disappear in the distance.

And that’s the disadvantage of showing. It takes many more words.

Normally, that’s not a problem, because the reading experience is more interesting.

But if you show everything… then your subscriber will get overwhelmed.

That’s why there is a time to show and a time to tell.
